Secretly Unstable

I have been told I am crazy, funny, a good cook, and a decent blogger. These are the expectations I am trying to live up to. Thank you.

Connect Four is Hard!

Sundays are so good, and so bad for so many reasons.

First the bad: I am one of those people who has Sunday night anxiety. I toss and turn, dreading the end of the weekend and the start of the work week. I think awful thoughts: What happens when we die? What will I wear tomorrow? When will I die? Do I have any tights without holes in the toes? Its always sucky. One thing helps, booze. Sad but true... which leads me to the good.....

The good about Sunday: Hanging out at Iona's with Mike, Janina, Derek, Carli, Uli, Chris, Megan, and whoever else comes out. Drinking good beer, walking a bit around Williamsburg, eating some good food from Taco Chulo, Soma, and/or Coney's, laughing, smoking, good reggae, meeting new people, and now PLAYING CONNECT FOUR.

I dunno if any of you have played connect four lately. But it is a blast and it is hard. It makes you feel really dumb. It also makes you laugh. You sit and watch others play, and you wonder, "How can they miss that?" Then you play and you make stupid mistakes. Its madness. We played for like 3 hours yesterday and none of us got any better. It is the perfect and most inperfect game. And I am not sure if beer helps or hurts. But these are the things I am sure of:

  • As Derek pointed our, Connect Four is a game of mental lapse. You must wait for you opponent to fuck up to win. True with other games, very true with Connect Four.
  • As Megan pointed out, you must use your surrounding when playing Connect Four. A distracted opponent is a losing opponent. Food, songs, boobs, jokes, and beer are worthy distractions.
  • I learned that you must remain unfocused as well as focused to play Connect Four. If you fixate on a particular winning opportunity your opponent will swoop in and take you out. If you don’t play enough attention to winning opportunities you will miss key moves. It’s a catch 22!
  • As Janina pointed out, wearing a black shirt while playing “black” gives you a slight advantage, especially in a dark bar with a tipsy opponent.

I am sure there is more to learn. I will keep you all in the loop.

More importantly I would like to start a Connect Four Tournament of Champions. Picture it, 12 Connect Four games going on at once, best 2 out of 3, winners advancing until a champion is crowned. That would be freaking awesome. Cash prizes. I am so excited. We are so doing this.
